SALON MOXIE PRESENTS A COLLECTION OF WORKS BY PAUL FRIEDRICH
July 07, 2008 (RALEIGH NC) Paul Friedrich, a pop icon in the Triangle area, is the featured artist at Salon Moxie in North Raleigh from now through August. The artist’s reception will be held Friday, July 11, from 6-9 p.m.
Paul Friedrich is perhaps best know as the creator of the “Onion Head Monster” comic strip in The Independent Weekly and online at www.onionheadmonster.com
His work is renowned for its storytelling, humor, bright colors and bold lines. He has been described as a “post-hip, pop-visionary” artist and illustrator whose work is as entertaining as it its widely collected.
The series of Hong Kong paintings Friedrich is showing at Moxie explores “a new direction of semi-abstraction,” he said. He is also bringing silkscreen posters and digital prints for sale during the July 11 reception. READ MORE
SAMUEL COLE SALON, SALON MOXIE STYLISTS PREPARE MOMS & MODELS FOR MAGAZINE SPREADS
May 27, 2008 (RALEIGH NC) Samuel Cole Salon and Salon Moxie recently created hair and make-up designs for fashion spreads in both Midtown and Living in Style magazines.
Midtown, a bimonthly publication primarily serving the North Hills area of Raleigh, features an article in its May edition on maternity fashion. Two actual moms-to-be served as models.
To complement the trendy and stylish maternity ensembles provided by Cravings boutique, salon co-owner Jack Ray and stylists Ashley Collins, Ellen Geenty and Nichole LyMaye decided to use as inspiration the healthy glow mother’s-to-be naturally possess. The makeup featured soft rosy palettes with a dewy finish. The hair was styled to accentuate soft, feminine yet polished silhouettes. READ MORE
SAMUEL COLE SALON, SALON MOXIE PREPARE “STRUT” MODELS FOR TWO NIGHTS ON THE TOWN
April 23, 2008 (RALEIGH NC) When the models came out to play during “Meet the Models,” two Raleigh events to help promote STRUT ’08, they offered more than a preview of the haute couture expected on the runway on Saturday, May 3, in North Hills. They also offered an up-close look at the hair design and make-up artistry of the award-winning stylists at Samuel Cole Salon and Salon Moxie, the official salons for STRUT ’08.
To promote the show -- which will feature national fashion designers with Raleigh roots, as well as local designers and boutiques, music and dance performances -- STRUT ’08 models appeared in two Raleigh nightclubs. On Friday, April 18, they joined the party at Buckhead Saloon in downtown Raleigh. On Friday, April 25, they were “strutting” their stuff at Oliver Twist in North Raleigh (8111 Creedmoor Road) from 10 p.m. to midnight. READ MORE
Samuel Cole Salon, Salon Moxie Stylists Prepare STUT Models for Magazine Spread
March 26, 2008 (RALEIGH NC) Embracing their role as the official salons for the STRUT ’08, a haute couture and entertainment event coming to Raleigh May 3, Samuel Cole Salon and Salon Moxie recently created hair and make-up designs for a group of models for a photography spread on the show that will appear in Social The Magazine in April.
On March 16, the 12 of the show’s 35 models gathered at Samuel Cole Salon in North Raleigh, where eight stylists set about creating “glamorous, night-on-the-town” hair and make-up to complement a collection of upscale-boutique fashions, according to Joelle Ray who co-owns the two salons with her husband, master stylist Jack Ray. Salon Moxie Presents "On Location" by Peter Christopher Hutson
March 5, 2008 (RALEIGH NC) “On Location” a selection of images from fine art photographer Peter Christopher Hutson’s recent world travels, is currently on display at Salon Moxie in North Raleigh and will remain up through April.
Hutson owns and operates PCH Photography in Raleigh. He divides his time between commercial photography for clients and traveling the globe to create fine art images for himself and his growing patron base.

Salon Owners Jack and Joelle Ray to Help Select Models for STRUT
February 20, 2008 (RALEIGH NC) Jack and Joelle Ray, the husband-and-wife team behind Samuel Cole Salon and Salon Moxie in North Raleigh, will help select the runway models for STRUT, a televised fashion show to be held in North Hills on May 3, 2008. The Rays’ salons were selected as “Official Salon” for the show, which means their stylists will create all of the hair and make up designs for the event.
Auditions for models will be held at The Mint on Fayetteville Street in downtown Raleigh on March 4. STRUT organizers Brian Williams and Betzi Hekman say they will need over 30 men and women to model clothing and accessories by top designers with Raleigh “roots,” including Miranda Laughlin, Amy Stephenson, Guy Marshall, Elizabeth Yarborough and Holly Aiken. Several Raleigh-area boutiques will also participate in the show.

Samuel Cole Salon/Salon Moxie Named Official Salon
For High-End Fashion Show Coming To Raleigh
February 1, 2008 (RALEIGH NC) Samuel Cole Salon, an award-winning hair salon in North Raleigh, and its sister salon, Salon Moxie, will serve together as the Official Salon for STRUT a gala fashion show to be held in downtown Raleigh on Saturday, May 3, 2008, beginning at 9 p.m. According to producer Brian Williams of Brian Williams Television, STRUT will spotlight new collections by top designers with Raleigh roots, including Miranda Laughlin (dresses), Amy Stephenson (jeans), Guy Marshall (boots), Elizabeth Yarborough (jewelry) and Holly Aiken (bags), plus fashions from several local designers and boutiques. And when the models strut down the catwalk in the designers’ couture, they’ll also be wearing hair and make up created by the stylists of Samuel Cole Salon.
“The behind the scenes action of a fashion show has more electricity than any other type of live production,” said Jack Ray, senior stylist and co-owner of both North Raleigh salons with his wife, Joelle. “All the creative energy and effort coming together to create a vision that will walk down the runway it’s quite a rush. We are excited to be chosen for this amazing opportunity.”

Salon Moxie Presents "Polytychs" By Suzy Andron
January 7, 2008 (RALEIGH, NC) Continuing its revolving art displays, Salon Moxie, a new hair styling salon in Raleigh’s North Ridge Shopping Center, is hosting two new large works by Raleigh artist Suzy Andron through the months of January and February. Andron connects multiple canvases of highly textured abstract acrylic compositions to create what she calls “polytychs. She defines her work as “adjacent groups of two or more stand-alone but related canvas paintings” which allows her to play with the paintings’ perimeters to produce new geometric forms.

Salon Moxie Stylist Contributes to Charitable Fashion Show in Charlotte
January, 2007 (RALEIGH, NC) Nichole Lu Maye, a hair stylist with Salon Moxie in North Raleigh, recently participated in “The Luxury Living Show -- Mercedes, Fashion & Furniture” held at The Fountains Shopping Center in Charlotte. Proceeds from the event went to the Charlotte Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen For The Cure Foundation. Lu Maye worked through Coco Fleur, a Parisian-style clothing boutique, to create hair and make-up for local celebrity wives, including professional wrestler Ric Flair’s wife Tiffany.

Salon Moxie Debuts Original Works by Emerging Artist Sean McKinney
October 23, 2007 (RALEIGH, NC) Salon Moxie, located in Raleigh’s North Ridge Shopping Center, will debut new works by emerging artist Sean McKinney during an in-salon art exhibit that will run from November 2 to January 2, 2008. The Artist’s Reception will be held in conjunction with the city’s First Friday Art Walk November 2, from 6-9 p.m. McKinney, 22, lives in downtown Raleigh but is originally from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He studied art at Leesville High School in Raleigh and at UNC-Wilmington.

Artist Ryan Keeley Brings “Aggressive Urban Flavor” To Salon Moxie Art Exhibit

According to Joelle Ray, these stylists were hired because they exhibit “natural talent, a positive attitude, and a passion for this industry.” They are: Ellen Geenty of Wake Forest, Katrina Johnson of Raleigh, and Nichole LuMaye, originally from Tampa, FL. Johnson and LuMaye are graduates of the former International Institute of Hair Design in Raleigh. Geenty is a graduate of the Aveda Institute in Chapel Hill.

They are: Mary-Taylor Valand of Raleigh; Kegan Rushing from Brooklyn, NY; Nikki Galloni from Jamestown, NC; Lauren Lawson from Wilmington, NC; Jessica Duncan from Hickory, NC; and Erin Shebaugh from Scranton, PA.

Salon Moxie Presents New Works By Dawn Anderson-Capron
July 2, 2007 (RALEIGH, NC) Salon Moxie, a new hair styling salon in Raleigh’s North Ridge Shopping Center, is hosting its second in-salon art exhibit in July, present all new work by artist Dawn Anderson-Capron of Adamantine Creative Design Studio in Wrightsville Beach, NC.
Capron uses a proprietary creative process to manipulate her own large-format photographs into distinctive expressions. Closely cropped archival prints are set on heavy canvas stretched on wooden frames. She then covers the prints with a deep crystalline over-layer, or glaze (an eighth- to a quarter-inch thick), which enhances both detail and color and creates an almost “wet” look. The glaze also protects the pieces from damage so well that they can be hung outdoors as well as in.

Salon Moxie Launches Revolving Art Exhibits
June 1, 2007 (RALEIGH, NC) Salon Moxie, a new hair styling salon in Raleigh’s North Ridge Shopping Center, has opened the first of its ongoing series of art exhibits. The premiere exhibit, “Urban Images,” features large-scale photographs taken in downtown Raleigh by Cara Grace Galati and Jonathan Kaz of f8 Photo Studios, Raleigh.
Salon Moxie is a new concept from Jack and Joelle Ray, owners of the more upscale Samuel Cole Salon on Newton Road, Raleigh, that fills the void between “budget” salons and the more expensive destinations and gives “rising star” stylists an environment in which to enhance their skills.

Samuel Cole Salon, Salon Moxie Join “Locks of Love”
May 6, 2007 (RALEIGH, NC) Samuel Cole Salon, an upscale hair styling destination in North Raleigh, and Salon Moxie, its new “sister” salon, also in North Raleigh, have become “Locks of Love” salons. Both facilities will offer free shampoo, cut and style to anyone who donates his or her hair to Locks of Love.
Locks of Love is a non-profit organization that uses donations of human hair to make wigs and hair pieces for disadvantaged children under 18 who suffer from any number of balding conditions, not just hair loss due to chemotherapy for treating cancer. The most common cause, according to Locks of Love, is alopecia areata, an autoimmune deficiency disease that affects over 4 million people in the United States, two million of whom are children. There is no known cause or cure for alopecia areata.
